Meet Our Director
Katara began her dance training at Firethorn School of Dance, located in Tampa Fla, at the age 7 under the direction of Patricia Plummer. She continued her dance training through our middle school and decided to venture out and seek other dance opportunities while entering high school. Katara join Kuumba Drummer and Dancers African Dance Company, organized by Natalie Jackson. KDD taught Katara the importance of Community, Culture and a new language of Dance. Shortly after graduating high school, Katara wanted to take her artistry more serious and enrolled to Hillsborough Community College, directed under Christian Acosta, here she danced and had the opportunity to work with artist such as Jennifer Archibald, H.T. Chen, Monica Bill Barnes, and the late Baba Chuck Davis.
Katara's other professional accomplishments include: ABA Florida Flights Dance Team, Company Member of Contemporary Center of Dance, Cast Member of Sesame Street Live Shows and the Atlanta Gladiators Glads Girls Dance Team.
With so much love and passion for dance, Katara has decided to explore teaching. relocating to Atlanta, GA 2012, she became a full-time student at Brenau University to pursue her career in Dance Education, under the direction of Vincas Greene and Jolie Long; learning technique of Martha Graham and Merce Cunningham. In 2013 Katara was rewarded the Carol Smiarowski memorial Dance Scholarship recognizing both artistic and academic excellence.
In 2017 Katara join 29 others and accepted the 30 under 30 Caribbean American Leaders Awards. From this moment Katara knew she had to continue to strive and give back to the community. MasXpressions started as a Carnival Mas Band, with her love for dance and her Caribbean culture Katara decided to converge the two brands in one and create:
MasXDance Company.
MasXDance Company will continue to participate in events that promote and uplift the community culture.
